Cranbrook Students Shine in STEM Competitions!

Lower and Middle school teams advance in chemistry, robotics.
Chemistry:
On March 5, 2020, Cranbrook’s’ two eight-grade teams took top honors at the Great Lakes Bay Region “You Be The Chemist Challenge” with the girl’s team placing third and the boy’s team placing first.

The Chemical Educational Foundation (CEF)’s You Be The Chemist Challenge is a collaborative, multilevel academic competition that celebrates the science of chemistry and elevates STEM careers.

The winning team of Krish Upadhyay, Kaavin Newatia, Quinn Todd and Akshu Enaganti will now compete in the next level of the competition and attempt to qualify for the National Challenge this June in Houston TX.

Congratulations to both teams!!

Robotics:
At the VEX IQ robotics State Championship in Traverse City, held February 28 through March 1, Cranbrook robotics teams earned top performance awards in both the Elementary and Middle School Divisions.

The multiple awards earned by Cranbrook teams included first place in both the elementary and middle school divisions.

With over 450 teams competing in VEX IQ across Michigan this year, only 60 in each age division qualified to participate in the event. Cranbrook was well represented with 15 qualified teams between the two divisions.

In addition to the two State Champion awards, another of Cranbrook’s Middle School teams earned 2nd Place in the state. All three teams received an invitation to represent the USA at the World Championship in Louisville, Kentucky this April!

Additionally, one Middle School team won the prestigious Judges Award for impressive design and presentation skills.

Congratulations to all the Cranbrook robotics teams for a very successful season. Cranbrook had 60 Middle School students and 24 Lower School students participate in the program this year, with students working diligently from September through February to build, code, and practice with their robots
