Eddie L. Green, Ed.D.

2000-2010
Dr. Eddie Green strongly advocates advancing and defending the ideal of equal educational opportunities for all young people.

He began his work as Director of Horizons-Upward Bound at Cranbrook on May 1, 2000. Dr. Green strongly advocates advancing and defending the ideal of equal educational opportunities for all young people and has made “closing the achievement gap,” and “digital divide” major objectives of his work. He addresses these issues by implementing interactive, individualized instruction in a broad range of subjects such as reading, math, writing, and science in order to help students reach their fullest potential.
Prior to this work at Cranbrook, Dr. Green served the Detroit Public Schools in a variety of positions including teacher, assistant principal, and principal. He later joined the ranks of the District’s executive staff and served as Executive Assistant to the General Superintendent, Area Assistant Superintendent, Area Superintendent and Deputy Superintendent for Educational Services. He assumed the position of Interim General Superintendent in April, 1997, Acting General Superintendent in April 1998, and in November1998, Dr. Green was appointed General Superintendent of the eighth largest school District in the country. In March 1999, Dr. Green was appointed Acting Chief Executive Officer of the Detroit Public Schools by Mayor Dennis Archer and the next month, Dr. Green was appointed Chief Executive Office of the Detroit Public Schools by the new reform board of education until a new Interim CEO was appointed in May 1999.

Dr. Green is a graduate of Grambling State University where he earned his bachelor of science degree in business education. He received a master of arts degree in business education as well as a doctoral degree in education with a major in curriculum development and a cognate in general administration from Wayne State University. He considers himself a life-long learner and takes full advantage of every opportunity presented him. Choosing education as a career has allowed him to share his learning with many others.

Dr. Green’s vision for Horizons-Upward Bound was based on basic values and critical conditions for high achievement in education; specifically, that school programs should be learner-centered, caring communities. He firmly believes that together we can instill in urban children the resilience necessary to address the barriers to learning that can prevent them from achieving. Guided by the Cranbrook Schools’ goals and objectives and the history and mission of HUB, Dr. Green sought to engage all segments of the community in building a confident, committed and supportive community to increase achievement for all students.
