Girls' Program

Both the Middle School for Girls and Middle School for Boys have a strong middle school orientation and philosophy, but because we are committed to single-gender education at this level, we are able to provide girls with their own space on the Kingswood Campus. The Middle School for Girls provides its students with a curriculum tailored to their needs and activities designed with adolescent girls in mind. While we hold our girls to the same high academic standards of the entire Cranbrook Schools community, we also provide necessary opportunities for each girl to develop her self-concept, and to be recognized both as an individual and as a member of a group.

Our faculty members are here because they want to be—they are trained to work with girls of this age, and they use their expertise in chosen fields to best reach and encourage each girl to discover her potential for learning. Our teachers are organized into grade-level teams that meet every day to chart and observe the academic and social growth of the girls in their grade, and teachers also serve as advisers to students to ensure each girl has an advocate, each family a strong primary contact with the school.

We also encourage our girls to work together and become leaders. Each grade elects class officers, plans grade-level activities, and takes a trip together. Our after-school athletic program and numerous after-school clubs and activities encourage girls to seek out a passion or challenge outside of the classroom and explore it fully with the guidance of coaches and teachers. These program elements are part of our holistic approach to educating girls, extending educational opportunities beyond books and homework into the world we live in.
