The Cranbrook Basketball camp focuses on two important elements in becoming an improved basketball player: fundamentals and strength training.
In the fundamental phase the athletes will be instructed on the basics in ball handling, shooting, passing, rebounding, and positional defense. Athletes will be put in game like situations that will be fast paced, maximum repetitions, and competitive. The athletes will leave with the fundamental skill base to be able to drill, and practice on their own. At the end of the week simulated games will take place.
In the strength training phase the athletes will be provided instruction on “how” to strength train using basketball specific exercises. The younger athletes, grades 4-6, will use primarily body weight exercises, jump ropes, plyometric and agility ladders. 7-12 grade athletes will incorporate all phases of weight training, speed and agility, and core resistance training.
Upon completion of the camp the athletes will have gained the knowledge of the proper techniques of strength training for basketball. The goal is for the athletes to be able to incorporate both the fundamentals and strength training in their daily training regimens.
