About Brookside Camps

Brookside Tots Day Camp (coed, ages 3-4)
Brookside Day Camp (coed, grades
K-2)

The fun never stops at Brookside Day Camps! Our youngest camps offer activities that encourage self-expression and creative diversity while developing coordination and muscle skills. Games instill sportsmanship and activities nurture the full development of each child’s health, happiness and skills.

Brookside Tots Day Camp
This camp is for the camper ready to spend a few hours away from parents/guardians. This active hands-on program will surely delight your children. Campers are assigned to groups with aquatic animal names, so your camper could be an otter, a sea turtle, a clown fish or a sea star for example. First thing in the morning, campers, counselors, instructors and directors sing the Morning Cheer. Singing the cheer not only puts campers in the right mood to start camp, but it also helps to wake up! After the cheer, campers are ready to begin a day full of fun activities. These are music, art, science and nature, sports, movement, and specials. This last activity focuses on safety, friendship, teamwork, respect, and manners. With an A-B schedule, half-day campers enjoy each activity every other day while full-day campers attend each activity every day. Also, as part of the Science and Nature class, your child will enjoy nature walks around the beautiful Cranbrook campus. As busy as campers are at camp, they will have the opportunity to spend time at the playground. Every other week, Tots will have fun and cool off during our Water Fun Day. Every week of camp we’ll have a different theme. The themes will be Animals, Wacky Week, When I Grow Up, Science, Earth, and Nature. Parents receive a weekly newsletter about upcoming events and a weekly update from your child’s instructor letting you know what your son or daughter did that week. Social interactions and cooperation are stressed, as campers practice following direction, sharing, and safe play behaviors. A higher staff-to-camper ratio in this program assures that even first-time campers feel secure and cared for while exploring a safe and nurturing, fun filled environment. Children must be fully potty-trained to participate in camp.

Brookside Day Camp
Our Kindergarten and first grade campers enjoy enhanced recreation and instruction. Campers are assigned to groups with land animal names. Your child may be a Lion, a Panda, a Coyote, a Kangaroo, etc. First thing in the morning, campers, counselors, instructors and directors sing the Morning Cheer. Singing the cheer not only puts campers in the right mood to start camp, but it also helps to wake up! After the cheer, campers are ready to begin a day full of fun and enriching activities. These activities are music, art, science and nature, sports, movement, and drama. With an A-B schedule, campers enjoy three of these activities every other day. During the science and nature class, your child has the opportunity to enjoy nature walks around Cranbrook’s beautiful campus. Campers have playground time every day, and of course, Brooksiders swim every day*. Every week of camp has a different theme. The themes are Animals, Wacky Week, When I Grow Up, Science, Earth, and Nature. Parents receive a weekly newsletter about upcoming events and a update from your child’s instructor letting you know what your son or daughter did that week. Social interactions and cooperation are stressed, as campers practice following directions, sharing, and safe play behaviors.

Lunch Program
Campers enrolled in our full day camps eat the prepared lunch and meals are served and eaten family style. Because lunch is viewed as an extension of the day, the staff eat with the campers. This family style approach is unique in the opportunities it offers. We are able to monitor eating and independent food choices. We encourage trying new foods and reinforce good eating habits. Finally, family style meals give us the opportunity to reinforce good table manners and social etiquette to model positive, inclusive conversation. The menu rotates every two weeks and strives to meet or exceed USDA and state mandates for school lunch programs. All lunches and snacks during the camp day are provided by the camp and are included in the price of tuition.

*UPDATE - Swimming will be available all weeks of camp. During the last week (July 31-August 4), the pool will close beginning Wednesday, August 3rd; alternate activities will be provided.
