Middle School Students Learn about DNA through Art

Grade 6 students in Karen Campbell and Andrea Lorey’s Life Science classes recently enjoyed the annual DNA screen-printing project.

Visiting the Plaza Vault at Cranbrook Art Museum, students studied original artwork by Andy Warhol and Ray Lichtenstein and saw a printmaking demonstration.

Back in their classrooms, combining art and science, students made colorful screen prints inspired by the double helix. With fresh skills and a new understanding of the structure and function of DNA, students created their impressions of what it means to them!
