UPDATED! Cranbrook VEX Robotics Teams Headed to World Championships!

On to the World Championships!
 
On March 2nd, all of our active 8th through 12th grade teams competed at Michigan State University in the middle and upper school divisions of the VEX State Championship.  It was truly a battle-of-the-bots until the very end and, after our three Cranbrook middle school teams battled against each other for the championship title, and upper school teams endured two tie-breaking matches in the final round, the winning alliances secured their championship titles.  Cranbrook teams brought home eight of the top awards of the day, and of the twenty Michigan teams that qualified for a space at the World Championships, five spaces (25% of the total spaces allotted to Michigan) were secured by Cranbrook Robotics teams.  In his closing remarks at the awards ceremony, REC (Robotics Education & Competition) Foundation’s Regional Manager for Michigan, Mike Martus, commented that this was the best state championship event he’s been to this season.

State Success
 
Previously, every active VEX and VEX IQ Robotics team from Cranbrook’s Lower, Middle, and Upper School programs qualified to compete in the VEX State Finals. Cranbrook hosted the VEX IQ State Championship tournament at the Cranbrook Kingswood Middle School for Boys.Our teams had a great showing. Of the seven CK teams participating, five took top honors with three qualifying (out of five total spots in the state) to compete at the World Championship Tournament in Anaheim, CA this coming April.

Team 35H Stryker Typhoon came in tenth place overall.
Team 35Z Brookside Bots was the number one seeded team for the qualifying rounds and came in 3rd place.
Team 35Y ALL STARS was the eleventh seeded team for the qualifying rounds.

In all, there are five Upper School and three Middle School VEX teams, as well as seven VEX IQ teams. At Cranbrook, students compete in the VEX IQ league from age 8 through the seventh grade (Brookside and the middle schools). Eighth grade and Upper School Students compete in the VEX league.
