Located in Michigan, Cranbrook Schools is one of the leading college preparatory boarding and day schools in the country. We are proud of our reputation. We are proud of our students’ achievements as well as the acceptances they earn each year from the nation’s top colleges and universities. Most of all, though, we are proud of our students.

We are truly a global community. Students and families from all over the world come to Michigan to experience one of the finest private school educations in the country. Each and every day our students and teachers create a welcoming, challenging and engaging learning environment together. Our students are individuals. They surprise and amaze us. They are happy. They love to learn.

A 7-year-old student uses a SMART Board™, the latest technology, with confidence. A teacher demonstrates a complex formula with a 3-D model. We know this technology because we have used it for years. Yet, we continually seek new tools and ideas to engage and challenge students. For us, technology is not about the what; it’s about the how.

A 14-year-old student sits in a circle with fifteen other students. He discusses his interpretation of the book they are reading. Other students offer their insight. These students come from all over the world and throughout the country. We listen and learn. We talk and question. We understand and discover. This discussion is invaluable.

A recent graduate talks before a group of prospective families. He begins quietly. Cranbrook changed his life. He was surrounded by friends who wanted to learn and whose passions encouraged him to pursue his. His voice grows more enthusiastic. He is at a prominent east coast university. AP coursework from Cranbrook earned him a full year of college credit. He has traveled the world while maintaining strong ties to his former classmates and teachers. His eyes glisten with passion as he concludes his remarks. Cranbrook is a place where someone like he – an eager learner with desire to explore and grow as a scholar and person – belongs. “Why,” he asks, “would anyone go elsewhere?”

This is Cranbrook. We are more than a school. We are, simply, one of the best engaging and challenging learning communities.
Mission Statement
Cranbrook Schools are independent day and boarding schools that provide students with a challenging and comprehensive college preparatory education. We motivate students from diverse backgrounds to strive for intellectual, creative, and physical excellence, to develop a deep appreciation for the arts and different cultures, and to employ the technological tools of our modern age. Our schools seek to instill in students a strong sense of personal and social responsibility, the ability to think critically, and the competence to communicate and contribute in an increasingly global community.
Guiding Principles
Cranbrook Schools comprise a college preparatory day and boarding educational institution, early childhood through 12th grade, consisting of three divisions: a lower, middle, and an upper school. We are structured to recognize and respond to the developmental, cognitive, and creative needs of boys and girls and are dedicated to excellence in all aspects of education.
