Eid-al-Adha

"The Feast of the Sacrifice" commemorates Abraham's willingness to sacrifice his son Ishmael in obedience to God's word (God interceded by replacing a ram for the child).  The celebration occurs at the end of the Hajj, the pilgrimage to Mecca, which is one of the five pillars of Islam).  This holiday is celebrated in much the same way as Eid Al-Fitr - with good food, gifts for children and general merrymaking.  Begins at sundown the previous day.
