Steve Graf Named Athletic Director of the Year by Catholic High School League

Cranbrook Schools Athletic Director Steve Graf was selected by the Catholic High School League (CHSL) as this year's recipient of the Tom Kelly Athletic Director of the Year Award. Graf was honored at the Annual CHSL Hall of Fame Day on Monday, June 13 at the Fern Hill Golf and Country Club.

“It is an honor for Steve, his family, friends and for Cranbrook Kingswood,” stated Vic Michaels, Director of the CHSL. “In addition to honoring the accomplishments of our inductees, the occasion allows us to celebrate as a Community the special efforts extended to our young people throughout our athletic programs over this and past years.”

Coming from Graf, such special efforts are numerous and well-documented through his many awards and achievements. He has served as the Cranbrook Kingswood Athletic Director since 2009, Assistant Football Coach for Cranbrook Kingswood since 2015, and Head Football Coach for Cranbrook Kingswood from 2010 to 2013. Under his direction, Graf has led numerous teams to earn 22 State Championships, 37 Regional Championships, 16 State Runners-Up, and status as the 2014-15 MLIVE Ultimate State Champions.

For these and many other successes, Graf was awarded the Cranbrook Pete Dawkins Award for Excellence for the 2014-15 school year, in recognition of his commitment to excellence and achievements in CK athletics.

"Steve Graf has raised the bar at CK Athletics,” stated Shane Finney, Associate Athletic Director for the Cranbrook Kingswood Upper School. “Steve has the unique ability to take all perspectives of an issue and move forward. Rather than say ‘no’, he explores how [we can] say yes. He’s not afraid to ask why and to ‘put another iron in the fire’.”

“I am honored and humbled to be recognized by my peers in the Catholic League and appreciate that the Cranbrook Athletic Program is recognized by the League as a positive addition to the membership," Graf stated. "This accolade is directly reflective of the Cranbrook administrative support the athletic department receives and the amazing team of athletic administrators, coaches, boosters, alumni, and students that make CK athletics great! It is a total team effort.”

This award is a great honor for both Graf and the Cranbrook Schools community, which has greatly benefitted from his expertise and dedication over the years. Congratulations, Steve!
