February’s Exciting Events at Cranbrook Institute of Science!

The Cranbrook Institute of Science is hosting a variety of programs and events this month! All Cranbrook Schools parents and students are automatically members—so be sure to stop by and enjoy all that the Institute has to offer.

The Superheroes of the Night Get Bolder and BIGGER as Giant Bats Move into the Exhibition
The superheroes of the night supersize when the Malayan Flying Foxes move into the BATS: Superheroes of the Night exhibition in early February. You won’t find them outside in the wilds of Michigan, but you will find them inside only at Cranbrook Institute of Science!
Tickets are $5 for the general public, $4 for members, and $3 for seniors and children 2 to 12, in addition to museum admission. For more information, click here.

CIS After Dark is a Night at the Museum for Adults
The Institute’s popular CIS After Dark evening series for adults 21+ takes on love in Love After Dark - Thursday, February 11 at 7pm. Explore the science behind the emotion as we dissect the songs, senses, sensuality, and science of the Valentine season. Food and drinks are available for purchase at every event.
Tickets are $10 for Members, $15 General admission in advance, and $20 at the door. Register online or by calling (248) 645-3210.

Darwin’s Birthday
Saturday, February 13
1 - 4pm
Cranbrook celebrates Charles Darwin’s birthday by exploring his work through hands-on activities, a look at the geological record as it relates to Darwin’s work, a special showing of Natural Selection in the planetarium, and a glimpse of the Institute’s rare first edition On the Origin of Species. Join us for this unique glimpse into the life of Darwin! All activities except planetarium program are free with admission. For more information, click here.

Scouts at CIS
Join CIS and Girl Scouts of Southeastern Michigan for the Kaleidoscope of Science Fun on Saturday, February 27 from 4-8 pm. Join us to discover the science fun of physics, chemistry, astronomy, and geology. Attend an interactive physics auditorium, visit our observatory, test pH levels, examine micro beads, discover the wonders of fossils, and so much more. This event is open to all Girl Scouts and their families.
Ticket prices are $9 scouts/siblings and $7 adults. Tickets must be purchased in advance through GSSEM at https://www.gssem.org/

ScienceNOW Offers Continuing Science Education Opportunities
The Institute of Science unveils its ScienceNOW program in February with evening classes for adults and kids, a book club, lectures, and more. Designed for those looking to do a little “something extra” in their free time, ScienceNOW experiences cover a wide range of topics and interests.
