Congratulations, Class of 2015!

On Friday, June 5, 2015, the senior class of 2015 graduated in two packed ceremonies at Christ Church Cranbrook.

Built by George and Ellen Booth as an original part of the Cranbrook community, the church traditionally remains the site of all graduation ceremonies despite Cranbrook’s lack of religious affiliation. Although the Cranbrook high school is co-educational, it is also customary to graduate boys and girls in separate ceremonies; a convention that survives from the days when students were educated separately.

Charles Krause, class of 1965, delivered the address at the boys’ graduation. Having previously worked as a foreign correspondent for organizations such as The Washington Post, CBS News, and PBS, Krause has further engaged in the art of social discourse in his position as founder of the Charles Krause/Reporting Fine Art Gallery in Washington, D.C. His long-standing attraction to history, journalism, media relations, and world affairs has inspired the gallery’s representation of what Krause calls “the art of social and political change”. The artwork displayed is that which has sought to impact national and international issues, and it is Krause’s intention that the gallery may increase the curiosity and awareness that “visual images can, and do, impact how issues are perceived and help add to the national discourse”. Krause was honored to be selected as Cranbrook’s 2015 Distinguished Alumnus, and was proud to return to campus to speak to the new graduates.

Elizabeth Grossman, class of 1985 and Cranbrook’s 2015 Distinguished Alumna, delivered the address for the girls’ graduation. In her previous position as an attorney, Grossman was able to utilize her passion to defend the rights of others. For more than 20 years, she was engaged in the New York District Office on the United States Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC), during which time she handled the Commission’s litigation efforts across the East Coast. She now serves as director of the non-profit program Disability Rights New York, which oversees the protection and advocacy of individuals with disabilities. During the ceremony, Grossman encouraged the graduates to “challenge each other” and “dig deep” into themselves.

This year, the senior class was collectively admitted to 247 college and universities. Please see the list below.
