Cranbrook Robotics Teams earn victory, top honors in Oakland County Robotics Championship

The Cranbrook middle schools robotics teams were awarded with high honors and victor status at the 3rd annual Oakland County Competitive Robotics Association (OCCRA) Championship.

Held at Oakland Schools in Waterford on Saturday December 6th 2014, the middle school robotics competition put the science and engineering skills of twenty-four area robotics teams from thirteen different schools to the test during several rounds of the VEX game Skyrise. Using both autonomous mechanization and student radio-control, the robots were programmed to manipulate cubic structures to create towers and score points against their opponents. Competition lasted for over 5 hours until top-seeded Cranbrook Middle School aligned with the Oak Park Prep Academy to defeat Rochester’s Van Hoosen Middle School robotics team, an alliance which awarded top honors to both the Cranbrook and Oak Park teams.

The OCCRA League is made possible by the generous support of Premiere Sponsor DTE Energy Foundation and the Michigan Works! Agency. Their sponsorship supplied schools with the VEX robotics kits that students used to engineer their robots.

In addition to being crowned champions, Cranbrook was awarded the “Design Award” by a panel of judges. Their partner Oak Park Prep Academy received the “Programming Award”.
