On Saturday, November 15th, the CK Debate team competed in the 36th Annual Groves Tournament debating the topic "Resolved: On balance, the benefits of genetically modified foods outweigh the harms". In the Varsity Division, the dynamic duo of Clare Elwell and Maddie Fink won the Tournament, beating a team from Brother Rice in the finals. Clare also took home the 6th best speaker award.

In the Novice Division (designed for students new to Public Forum Debate), 43 teams competed and the CK teams took 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th, 8th, and 10th place.  First Place went to the team of Cory Peshkin and Jun Park, Maya Zreik and Samantha Chen brought home second place, and third place went to the team of Jillian Morse and Lacey Modell.  Adding to the day's success, Cranbrook placed six of the eight quarterfinals teams and won eleven of the top fifteen novice speaking awards.

Congratulations to all the competitors.  The future of Cranbrook’s Debate team looks bright!
